Split Rail and Hog Wire: Rustic and Resilient
Split rail and hog wire fences work well in rural and semi-rural parts of Western Washington. Split rail is simple and durable. Hog wire combined with a wood frame provides containment while maintaining open sightlines. Both handle rain and wind without issues.
Best for: larger lots, rural properties, garden enclosures, properties with views.
What Matters Most: Proper Installation
No material will hold up if it’s not installed correctly for this climate. Posts need to be set deep enough — below the frost line and in concrete where soil conditions demand it. Drainage around post bases matters. The grade of the fence line affects how water runs along the fence and how wind loads distribute.
